Cox Mechanical partnered with Commodore Builders to complete a comprehensive four-floor retrofit for Goulston & Storrs at One Post Office Square. The scope included the installation of active chilled beams, chilled water pumps, water source heat pumps, exhaust fans, VAV units, constant volume terminal units, and condensate pumps.
Challenges Faced
Limited ceiling space and architectural ceiling designs made equipment installation difficult. Existing steel heights necessitated the creation of a specialized support system for 6-way valves. Tight coordination was needed to align linear diffusers and mechanical systems within constrained areas.
Solutions and Innovations
Our team designed and fabricated custom hangers for all 6-way control valves, as well as employed shorter plenums to accommodate equipment within limited ceiling heights. Due to the fast turnaround, Cox provided a value engineered option to install water source heat pumps rather than CRAC units which lowered lead times to (8) weeks.
Results / Outcomes
Cox successfully installed roughly 1.8 miles of duct work, 4.5 miles of mechanical pipe, and 300 two pipe chilled beams. The project was completed on time and within budget delivering high-quality results.
